  41.     Overall, a nice, pretty, cheap ($400+ US) laser.  Comes in a
  42.     variety of bundlings; i.e. 1100se, 1100xi.)  This printer can be
  43.     converted to an 1100A with a scanner attachment (list US$150).

  46.     This printer is slow with Ghostscript versions prior to
  47.     5.50.<p>

  49.     For basic printing functionality use the <a

  51.     </a>. For advanced functionality such as printer status and
  52.     maintenance features, use the <a
  53.     href="http://hplipopensource.com/"> HPLIP driver</a>
  54.     (which includes HPIJS).<p>

  56.     Unfortunately, this printer has a little hardware problem: The
  57.     paper separation pad hardens with the time and the printer pulls
  58.     in several sheets of paper at once. HP is aware of this and
  59.     offered a kit to fix this without needing to disassemble the
  60.     printer for free. Unfortunately, HP discontinued this kit. You can
  61.     perhaps get these kits from other suppliers online for around 10
  62.     USD.<p>

  64.     The HP LaserJet 1100 has the same engine as the Canon LBP-320,
  65.     LBP-320 PRO, and LBP-350, and these have the same hardware
  66.     problem. It is quite feasible to solve this by gluing a 0.5mm
  67.     rubber strip over the hardened grey separation pad.<p>
